Free risk assessment builder

A construction risk assessment you can build in minutes, free and with no sign-up. Choose activities from the hazard library, set who is at risk, edit the control measures, and score the risk before and after controls on a 5x5 matrix. Print it or save it as a PDF; nothing is uploaded anywhere.

Use it properly. The library gives you typical hazards and controls as a starting point. A competent person must review and adapt the assessment to the actual task, site and conditions, approve it, and brief everyone doing the work.

1. Project details

2. Hazards and controls

Add activities from the library to pre-fill typical hazards and controls, then edit everything to match your task and site. Scores use likelihood x severity (1 to 5 each).

No hazards yet. Add an activity above to start.

3. PPE for this task

Frequently asked questions

How does the 5x5 risk matrix work?
You score likelihood from 1 (rare) to 5 (almost certain) and severity from 1 (negligible) to 5 (fatality), then multiply them. Scores of 1 to 7 are low, 8 to 14 medium and 15 to 25 high. You score twice: once for the raw hazard, and again for the residual risk once your control measures are in place.
What must a risk assessment contain?
The hazards, who might be harmed and how, the control measures that reduce the risk so far as is reasonably practicable, and a record of the findings. Employers with five or more employees must record the significant findings, and the assessment must be reviewed when it is no longer valid or the work changes.
What if the residual score is still high?
Change the method. A high residual score means the control measures are not adequate: eliminate the hazard, substitute the method, or engineer the risk out before falling back on PPE. The builder flags high residual scores so they cannot be missed.
Is it free, and do I need to register?
It is free with no account, no email and no limits. It runs entirely in your browser and the document never leaves your device.
